Obituary

MR C. V. SMITH (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, May 2. A well known figure in Dunedin affairs, Mr Charles Victor Smith, died yesterday. An outstanding personality in the Red Cross, Mr Smith directed the affairs of the Otago centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society during the war and was later president. Soon after the war, Mr Smith was awarded the 0.8. E. He was associated for years with the joint council of the Order of St. John and the Red Cross Society. Mr Smith was owner-direc-tor of C. B. Smith, Ltd., printers, until he sold out in 1951. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
