Transport Dispute Settled
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 30. The dispute which brought public transport to a standstill for a morning in six cities this month has been settled.
The secretary of the New Zealand Tramways Union, Mr P. A. Hansen, said in Wellington tonight that agreement had been reached in negotiations with the employers.
Under the agreement employees will receive a rise of 3}d an hour. The clause governing the working of broken shifts has been amended to provide for a 12-hour spread of working hours.
Eight hours must be completed within 11 hours and the hour beyond that paid at penal rates if worked. Mr Hansen said he was satisfied with the agreement. He was glad the matter had been settled without further industrial unrest and was sorry for the inconvenience the previous unrest had caused passengers throughout New Zealand.
