Britain Suggests Bonfire Of Nuclear Bombers

IN Z P..4.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, April 28. Britain today suggested a “bonfire” of nuclear bombers as a first step towards real disarmament This could lead to the destruction of “more modern delivery systems” Lord Chalfont Minister for Disarmfment said. He told the 114-nation Disarmament Committee this was one of the “partial” measures which could lead to further progress. “I have in mind particularly the possibility of a link between President Johnson's proposals for a freeze on the production of nuclear delivery vehicles with agreement on the actual destruction of agreed numbers of delivery vehicles on either side.” he said. "Here, a start might be made with the bonfire of certain types of bombers already proposed, and proceeding to more modern delivery systems. “Such an agreement combining elements from two use'ul proposals, would be a first itep towards real disarmament, the begining of actual lestruction of existing weapons systems.” He said Britain was planling “constructive proposals" limed at cutting back protection of nuclear weapons. He also called on the Soviet Inion to sign an international ’reement stopping the spread f nuclear weapons to Juntnes not yet possessing lem.

This would allay Russian fears that the proposed Atlantic nuclear force would mean proliferation of nuclear power.
