Security Curtain

(N.Z.P A.-Reuter —Copyright) CANBERRA, April 30. A tight security curtain fell today on members of the first battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, which is to be sent to South Vietnam, and their families.

Interviews with them were prohibited, as were facts about their families. The names of officers and their posts in the battalion were withheld.

A Defence Department spokesman said it was feared that if any soldiers were captured in fighting in Vietnam attempts might be made to reach their families in Australia in a bid to get valuable information about the battalion.

The identities of the 800 officers and men in the battalion will from now on be kept a close secret.
