PLANNING APPEALS
Decisions By Board
The Town and Country Planning Appeal Board has upheld the decision of the Christchurch City Council on an application by J. E. C. Pluck and M. A. Pluck, allowing them to depart from the provisions of the city’s district planning scheme. The permission allowed them to carry on their softfurnishing business at 20 Lane street, Woolston, on land zoned residential A, and to rebuild and enlarge their factory. Certain conditions were imposed. Two neighbours had opposed the applications.
The board has allowed an appeal by Miss F. E. G. Ridder against a decision of the Halswell County Council refusing her application to subdivide more than 13 acres of land at Halswell. The land is zoned rural.
The board found that the council had acted correctly in refusing the subdivision as a detrimental work, but decided that because of the peculiar circumstances of the case it would be proper to allow the appeal.
A decision of the Cheviot County Council, refusing to allow Transport (Cheviot), Ltd. to use land at Cheviot as a transport depot, has been upheld by the board. In its decision, the board says it is satisfied that at the time the council refused its consent to the change of use of the land, such change would have detracted or been likely to detract from the amenities of the neighbourhood.
In a further decision, the board has agreed to an application by Zip Properties, Ltd. for consent to use land at 233, 235, and 237 Brougham street for the manufacture of electrical appliances. The land is to remain zoned residential B. and certain conditions must be complied with.
