‘LEVY TOO HIGH’
Boxing Assn Critical (N.Z. Press Association» AUCKLAND. April 29 The amount the Auckland Boxing Association paid in levies to the national body was too high, said Mr B R. Arnott, the president, at the annual meeting of the association tonight. Mr Arnott said Auckland paid £657 last year, the highest paid by any association in New Zealand. "Speaking as the past president of the New Zealand council, I must add that without these levies the council would not be in a position to foster boxing today, especially the amateur side,” said Mr E. M. Christiansen.
“They would not be able to bring out teams from Australia or other parts of the world to foster our own amateurs."
Mr Arnott replied: "I looked up the reports of the New Zealand association for the last five years and found they are considerably richer than this association. “A team was brought from Japan last year and we made an application for a match in Auckland and were refused. This year a team is to tour from Australia and again we were rejected. “They gave the test match between Australia and New Zealand to a little place which has never had a fight for three years—Ashburton.”
