Preparing For The Future

Sir,—The doubts of “7852 8.E.F.” can be answered by reading page 67 of “Armageddon or Calvary." The

opinions of “T.M.S.” are completely negatived in that 0. E. Burton gained the Military Medal and Medaille d’Honneur. Nehru will be remembered when all his contemporary generals are forgotten. His policy of non-violence has benefited, and will benefit, humanity more, and play a greater part in ensuring world peace, than all the socalled military “defence.” — Yours, etc., SETH NEWELL. April 29, 1965.

Sir, —Pacifism is an attitude of unconquerable good will which implies a courageous “no” to methods inconsistent with good will. Violence has in it the seeds of its own destruction and burns itself out if the flames are not fed by further violence from the other side. We parents know the pitfall of countering childish aggression with aggression, but what do we teach the child thereby? What a young child learns unconsciously from the way he is treated can give him the desire to be aggressive as an adult. Many a man is pacifist at heart but can not stand against public opinion. Let us change public opinion so that it is easier for people to be their best. Jesus was a helpless victim but no violence could deprive him of good will. “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Hence the strength of Christianity and of pacifism, eventually.—Yours, etc., ARE YE ABLE? April 29, 1965.
