Reid Murray Convictions To Be Reviewed

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) MELBOURNE, April 28. Mr Justice Smith made an order in chambers today that the conviction of two former Reid Murray directors be reviewed by the Supreme Court. The men charged, Oswald Hames O’Grady, of White Park, South Australia, and Kenneth Norman Wilkinson,' of Beckett street, Balwyn, were alleged to have authorised untrue statements in a prospectus. In the City Court on March 23, Mr W. N. Thomson, S.M., fined them £2OO each. The Crown said the prospectus was issued for Reid Murray Acceptance, Ltd., in March, 1959. Reid Murray Acceptance,

Ltd., is one of the companies in the group headed by Reid Murray Holdings, Ltd., of which O’Grady was manag-ing-director and Wilkinson assistant managing director. Both men were also directors of Reid Murray Acceptance, Ltd. The grounds for the review were that the Magistrate was wrong in interpreting passages of the prospectus as he did, and that he should have allowed expert evidence on the materiality of statements in the prospectus,
