AUCKLAND, April 28.
The Auckland Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Auckland Stock Exchange, plans to organise a symposium on investment later this year. It is planned to have experts from all parts of the country attending.
A number of overseas speakers may be invited to come.
It is thought that the symposium may be run on similar lines to that on the “investment in Australia," held in February by the Stock Exchange of Melbourne. A preliminary meeting has already indicated solid support for the project, the chamber reports. A sub-committee is preparing a report on the form the symposium should take and on the topics to be dealt with in papers. The preliminary meeting was attended by Messrs T. R. Sussex. A. G. Wilson, R. W. Haworth, H. J. Lichtenstein, D. S. Cox and R. S. Wool lams, representing the Chamber of
Commerce, and J. S. Rutherfurd, M. Hay and H. M. McElroy on behalf of the Stock Exchange.
Mr E. D. Wilkinson. Auckland public accountant and chairman of the Monetary and Economic Commission, ’ also attended.
The three-day symposium in Melbourne discussed such topics as "is Australia attractive to overseas investment?", danger of foreign domination, the law and protection of the investor, trends in company financing, and stockbroking and underwriting. Papers were presented by speakers from the United Kingdom. America, Germany and Japan and by leading Australian company dicertors, accountants, lawyers and other experts.
