INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENTS
Monday Worst Day (N.Z Press Association) ROTORUA, April 28. Monday is the worst day of the week for industrial accidents, delegates to a condensed industrial safety course were told in Rotorua this morning. “It is generally accepted that, as a person has had a two-day rest, when he returns to work he has mentally and physically to adjust himself to conditions which he has not been used to on the previous two days,” said Mr P. H. Gibson, field officer in Rotorua for the National Safety Association. “It is apparent he has lost some of his skill during this period,” he said. As the person regained the skills, his chances of receiving a “lost-time” injury decreased slightly, he said. From an analysis of hours on shift when an accident occurred, it was shown that most accidents occurred when a person had been working two to four hours, said Mr Gibson.
Kitchen Fire.—A small fire in the kitchen of a house at 11 Halberg street, Dallington, occupied by Mr Keith Jones, caused slight damage about 8.45 a.m. yesterday. An engine from St. Albans and one from headquarters attended the call, but the fire had been put out before they arrived.
