REPAIRS TO CONCRETE

Work To Cost £BOO Subsidence of the concrete on the east of the toll plaza had reached the stage where it was starting to break up, the Christchturch-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority was advised yesterday. The Ministry of Works estimated the cost of repairs at £BOO, and the authority agreed to ask the ministry to do the work. The authority also received a report from Mr B. LovellSmith, construction engineer for the administration building, on the settlement of the crib wall. Remedial work was estimated to cost £l3O.

“It appears that because of the rush to complete the work someone failed to do the job properly,” Mr J. J. B. Gonnor said. Mr L. G. Amos: It looks as though we are up for it. The chairman (Mr R. A. Witbrock): It is hard to pin responsibility to anyone. We have not got much option but to face up to it.
