Basketball Tournament Deferred Indefinitely

Postponed twice because of rain, the annual tournament of the Canterbury Basketball Association has now been deferred indefinitely. Consideration of a suitable date for holding this popular fixture will not be given until the first round of competition games has been decided.

At its meeting held last evening the executive decided that all grades will begin competition games on Saturday. This year a record entry of 253 teams will take part tn Saturday competitions and the draw steward, Miss P. Gallagher, reported that further inquiries are still being received, although the season's draw has now been published and the only vacancies for new clubs will be through a team withdrawing. To alleviate the problems faced by teams during school holidays, the executive decided to hold the handicap tournament on the middle Saturday of the holidays, May 15. Entries for this tournament will close with the secretary on Saturday Selectors Appointed

Selectors for the 1965 season were appointed as follows: Senior: Miss H. Yates, Mesdames F. J. Shannahan and I. Nichol. Senior reserve: Mesdames F. Shearer, F. Gough and D. Hughes. Junior: Mesdames T. Southam, J. Lee and J. Fraser. Second grade Mesdames L. Webb, D. Hopping and J. Arrowsmith. Third grade: Mesdames N. Symes, N. Read and Miss L. Nicol. Fourth grade: Mesdames E. Hendren, R. A. Reece and M. Clark. Fifth/ sixtii grade: Mrs J. Wright, Misses B. Winter and H. Legge.

The grading committee's recommendations for the 1965 season were approved. Only seven teams will contest the senior grade and Rtccarton Community Centre and Sacred Heart B were left In senior reserve.
