RICCARTON MALL

McKenzies To Have Store A department store with a retail area of 8300 sq. ft for the Riccarton Mail shopping centre was announced last evening by Mr R. R. Livingstone. It will be the fifth store opened in Christchurch by McKenzies (N.Z.), Ltd., since its Sydenham branch was opened last year, and the company's 51st department store in New Zealand. The store will carry an extended range of merchandise for all sections, particularly in the softgoods departments. It will also incorporate a large gardening section and probably a coffee bar. Staffroom amenities and a storeroom will be on the first floor. The company’s executive director (Mr R. A. McKenzie) says it will be proud to be opening in the area as it is the nearest shopping centre to the late Sir John McKenzie’s home in Upper Riccarton.
