World Production Of Wool Steady

LONDON, April 26.
World production of raw wool in the 196465 season was estimated by the Commonwealth Economic Committee in a report today to be 5773 million pounds, greasy basis.
This was about the same figure as that reached last season.
In September last year the committee predicted a higher figure, but it said today that all major wool producing countries except New Zealand and Argentina were now expected to have lower outputs than forecast. World exports of woollen and worsted yarns last year came to 211 million pounds, a drop of three per cent on 1963’s total. The committee also said in a monthly review that world fibre production rose five per
cent in 1963-64 to a record 48,600 million pounds. Half of this was cotton, one-fifth was man-made fibres.
It said the substitution of man-made fibre yarns for pure wool worsted yarns had taken place in knitting, particularly in machine knitting, but not in weaving.
