Strong Forwards In Coast League Team
(By Our Rugby League Reporter.)
I A strong forward pack, comprising the three outstanding J Southern XIII players, J. K. ’ Dixon, A. P. Dennehy, and R. O. Schofield, and a competent back-line are the features i .of the West Coast Rugby 1 League team selected to meet • Canterbury at the Show . Grounds on Saturday. Because of the unavailabil- . ity of the captain and Kiwi, G. M. Kennedy, and his ’ centre partner, L. Brown, the • West Coast will have to rely . on its forwards, particularly the three Southern XIII players who so outshone Canter- ■ bury on Easter Monday. i The other two West Coast ■ members of the Southern XIII, ’ R. J. Rochford and B. J. Mann, • are included in the backs. An i interesting selection is that of ■ the stand-off half, B. Foley, 1 who has played for the Batley Club in Great Britain. Foley is now the CobdenKohinoor Club player-coach on the West Coast. The strong Marist Club has six players in the team and
- two others unavailable. Ken- , nedy suffered a rib fracture in a club match on Sunday ■ and will not play for three • weeks. The team selected by Messrs , W. F. Mountford, W. J. Cur(•agh, and J. McGrath is:— ' Full-back, B. J. Mann [ (Runanga); wings, R. J. Roch--1 ford (Marist), J. O’Connell (Runanga); centres, E. C. ’ Findlay (Cobden-Kohinoor), C. ; A. Hibbs (Marist); stand-off ’ half, B. Foley (Cobden- ■ Kohinoor); scrum-half, B. ' Sweetman (Marist); loose for- ' ward, C. W. Clark (Blackball); ’ second row, J. K. Dixon • (Marist), A. P. Dennehy (Marist): front row, R. O. Scho- : field (Blackball), F. Kennedy ■ (Blackball), J. Hibbs (Marist). ■ In addition to Kennedy and ! Brown, M. T. Casserley (Brunner) and T. M. Crowley i (Runanga) are also unavail- ■ able through injury.
