Queensland Wins £BOO

AUCKLAND. April 25.
Two opportunist long shots, one from 25 yards on a narrow angle and the other from almost 40 yards, enabled Queensland to beat Northern New South Wales, 2-1. in the final of the 8.0.A.C. international soccer tournament at Newmarket Park on Saturday. In defiance of the , continual rain and slippery field, both sides gave a skilful display of fast, combined football.
The goals, one by the rightwing. D. Hartley, and the other by the right-half, J. Parker, came unexpectedly, and generally Queensland’s forwards gave the brilliant young Northern centre-half, J. Welham, a torrid afternoon.
R. Burgoyne, using his height, initiated Northern’s only goal in the first half and would have equalised 10 minutes before fulltime had he not fouled the Queensland goal-keeper in the instant before he headed the ball into the goal. Queensland scored its goals in the seventh minute of each half. Northern equalised the first with a header by the inside-left, R. Giles.
Queensland won £BOO for first place in the tournament and Northern N.S.W. took £2OO for second.
