GOOD DOUBLE FOR MEETING

Min Flicka’s gameness and class carried her to victory under top weight of 9-6 in the Richmond Handicap at Riccarton on Saturday.

A start for Min Flicka was in doubt on Saturday morning because of the rain-affected state of the track.

It was finally decided to start the Final Court filly because this race was to be her last for the season. Min Flicka. carrying

9-6. won by a length and a half from the littlefancied Middy, but, according to her rider, W. D. Skelton, she had

“nothing left” “She's a free goer, and she had nothing left near the end," Skelton said after the race.

“I was afraid Middy might catch me when Min Flicka started to float inside the furlong. All I could do was sit still on her and hope for the best.”

Middy was at generous odds for a herse with placed form on the second day of the meeting. Dear Pal, the second North Island representative in the field, improved a solid record with a clear-cut third. She drifted slightly early, but had a good run through to be behind the leading bunch about half way through the race. Closer to home she had to be held up slightly before she found a gap, but N. Eastwood did not think it cost her a winning chance. The strongly-flnishing Count de Seine was an improver's

fourth another length back. Polar tired to fifth after being in the leading line to the straight.

Court, the second favourite after winning on Wednesday, ran in the leading line to about half way, then dropped out quickly to finish fourteenth. “He was ‘gone’ before we came out of the chute," said his rider, A. J. Stokes.
