HOTEL AT AIRPORT
Demand For Rooms
The contractor for the £450,000 White Heron Hotel being built at Christchurch Airport is fully confident that the work will be completed within the 36 weeks stipulated in the contract. Mr J. F. Gordon, the American architect, said in Christchurch yesterday that the local architects, Messrs Hall and Mackenzie, and the contractor, i the Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd., had done a wonderful job in co-ordinating the building programme. Mr Gordon, who recently returned from Dallas, said he understood that already the hotel was booked up from September to December. He said that the hotel manager. Mr R Kooney, of Blenheim, had recently returned from a training programme in the United States. Mr Kooney would soon visit New Zealand hotels. The contractor was now completing the exterior of the buildings. From now on the speed of the work would largely depend on the subcontractors.
