AUCKLAND, April 23.

A suggestion that barristers should be liable to claims by their clients was made by an Auckland lawyer, Mr D. A. R. Williams, in a paper read today to the students’ law conference being held at Auckland University. A recent decision by the House of Lords could have removed the long-standing immunity of barristers, Mr Williams said.

This decision that a negligent. though honest, misrepresentation by a barrister may result in a suit for damages for financial loss could have far-reaching effects on the Bar in New Zealand and the general public, he said.
