SHOOTING OF DUCKS
Season Opens On May 1
The duck shooting season in the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society’s district will open on Saturday, May 1, at 6.30 a.m., and will continue until June 7.
The limit daily bags are the same as last season except that whereas last season was a closed one for paradise duck and open for pukeko to a limit of three, this season pukeko are protected, and three paradise duck may be shot each day. The daily bag limits for other duck species are: grey duck, 10: spoonbill, 5; mallard duck, 10; mallard drake, 15. The total daily bag of ducks must not exceed 10 unless at least five of the birds are mallard drakes, when the total bag can be 15.
The shooting season for black swan, Canada goose, chukor, and California quail also begins on May 1, but continues until August 1. There is a daily bag limit of 10 for the quail, but no limit for the other species. The season is closed, for pheasant and partridge as well as pukeko. About 1000 partridges have been liberated this year in the DarfieldSpringfield district, the last of them towards the end of this week.
Feeding out is not permittee* at any time in areas where it is intended to shoot game.
Decoys may be used up to a maximum of 10 during the duck-shooting season, and of 20 (not duck decoys) during the rest of the shooting season for other game.
