Sang After Being Saved

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, April 16.

A young man was resuscitated today after almost drowning at Paekakariki. Surf lifesavers and firemen worked to start the youth breathing again after he was dragged from the water at 3.30 p.m.

Police said the man had been seen to stride fully clothed into the water a few minutes earlier. Firemen and lifesavers used Paekakariki’s Surf

Club’s automatic resuscitator to revive the youth. Then a Wellington free ambulanceman, T. Oliver, administered oxygen to the man before speeding him to Wellington Hospital.

At the hospital the man regained consciousness.

He refused to give his name and started to sing loudly.

When the police arrived the man had left in a taxi.
