Tilka Gallops Well In Wanganui Trial
“The Press” Special Service
WANGANUI. Tilka hinted that one mile and a half will not trouble her in the George Adams handicap at Riccarton on Monday with a splendid gallop at Wanganui yesterday. She was accompanied by Le Plus, which should assert himself in the Feilding Cup.
Grapevine, Tolunda and Syrinx, which will accompany Tilka to the South Island today, aquitted themselves creditably in easy gallops and the trainer, J. C. Bagby, should experience a successful campaign with his foursome. Trials were held on the No. 1 grass against the running rail. The track was easy.
Tilka (Reilly) and Le Plus (Parker) ran from the 10 furlong peg. They worked comfortably throughout, being timed from the six in Imin 20 2-ssec, finishing strongly over the last three together in 39 l-ssec.
Tilka, twice a winner over 11 furlongs last month, showed that a mile and a half should be within her compass in the £3600 George Adams Handicap if the track is in reasonably good order. Her regular pilot, N. E. Eastwood, will be on hand for the Can-
terbury carnival. He has also been engaged for Grapevine in the Warstep Stakes. Le Plus, which should manage 10 furlongs on Saturday, looks Strong and muscular for a Feilding Cup attempt. His free-running ability will be an advantage in the anticipated capacity field on Saturday. Tolunda (O’Connor) worked quietly over a circuit, coming from the six in Imin 21 4-ssec, the last three in 41 2-ssec. She was placed in the Opunake slush last time and given a better footing could race prominently over nine furlongs at Riccarton.
Grapevine (O’Connor) was not asked for an effort over five furlongs in Imin lOsec, and Syrinx (Anscombe), which makes her debut in the seven - furlong Courtenay Hack Handicap, was timed from the three in 42sec.
