Trade Exhibition Postponed
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, April 13
The international trade fair and exhibition proposed to coincide with the official opening of the Auckland international airport in January has been postponed until later next year.
The decision to defer the fair was taken at a meeting of the Trade Fair committee today because of the refusal by the One Tree Hill Borough Council to grant a building permit for the £lBO,OOO exhibition hall in which it was intended to hold the fair. The council held that insufficient parking was provided in the plans and the scheme tended to introduce commercialisation into the area.
The committee will advise investors that plans for the i
event have merely been deferred, not abandoned, and that the committee will adjourn until the outcome is known of an appeal by the
Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association to the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board against the council’s decision.
