School Committee Elections
Exactly 2019 members of committees are scheduled for election at primary, intermediate, and district high schools under the Canterbury Education Board in the next few weeks. Nominations for primary school committees close next Wednesday, April 21, and householders’ meetings for elections will be held a week later on April 28. Nominations for district high and intermediate schools closed on April 28 and these elections will be on Wednesday, May 5. Schools with up to 100 pupils have five committee members and these may be nominated from the floor of the meeting Schools with 100 to 200 pupils have seven committee members and those over 200 have nine and in these two cases nominations must be in writing. If all vacancies are not filled the nucleus committee may recommend additional names to the Education Householders (residents as
i well as parents with children at the particular school) may nominate, attend, and vote at the primary meetings but the others with wider boundaries and a slightly different scheme of representation are primarily for parents. Nominations are made to the present chairman of the committee. A total of 312 committees have to be elected in this area.
