LONDON, April 13
Two of the only three known examples of Guy Fawkes’s handwriting were to lie auctioned in London yesterday. They fetched £320.
The other example is in the public records office—the signature of Fawkes’ confession to his part in the plot to blow up the House of Commons with gunpowder on November 5, 1605. He was tortured before be signed, and the writing is understandably shaky. Those sold today are legal documents recordnig property deals, both signed by Fawkes. Both have his seal still attached. They were sold because their present holders, a London furnishing firm, is soon moving to new premises, and the Fawkes documents
and a number of other pliers were found when a strong box was being cleared out for the move. Among other items found in the box are the marriage settlement of Sir Robert Catesby—a conspirator in the gunpowder pot—and an original letter giving an account of the plot.
New Aero Club. The North Shore Aero Club will begin flying operations as an independent club next Saturday. It will operate initially from Ardmore. —(P.A.)
