HEAVY RAIN IN AMURI
Two Bridges Closed
After nearly three inches of rain on Sunday evening, creeks in the Amuri area which were dry are now running bank to bank. Approaches to two bridges have been washed out. but there are no other reports of damage or of surface water. The run off seems to have been rapid.
Approaches to the Mason river bridge, on the inland route from Waiau to Kaikoura. have been washed out for the second time in a month.
Repair parties report that the river is too high for much to be done, but it is expected that the approaches will be repaired and the road made passable within two days. A temporary road leading on to the Mount Palm bridge has also been washed out This. too. will be repaired as soon as the water drops sufficiently.
The County Clerk (Mr T. M Hanshy) said vesterdav there was more water in the creeks than there had been for about four years
Farmers in the area, howe'er. had had sufficient rain in recent weeks, and the fall on Sunday evening was not needed.
