A BUTTER RUN
(N 7. Prest Assn.—Copyright I CANBERRA. April 12. Allegations that a gang of Royal Australian Air Force men were smuggling tons of New Zealand butter into Australia In a “huge smuggling ring” were officially denied today.
The allegations were made lin a Sydney Sunday newspaper yesterday.
An Air Force spokesman said today that only one R.A.A.F. aircraft had been flown to New Zealand this year.
I This was a Canberra I bomber, which returned to Amberley, Queensland, on ; March 31. The crew had brought back four boxes of New Zealand i butter costing £3O. which had been shared by members of I the unit. The newspaper had alleged (that a Federal Parliamentarian, Mr William Hayden, would demand an investigai tion because local storekeepers near Amberley had i' reported a “staggering" drop of 3001 b in their butter sales I in one week.
