First Prize In World Contest
A Christchurch woman, aged 77, has won a first prize in a world-wide photographic contest. There were 150,000 entries in the contest, and four first prizes were awarded.
Mrs B. G. Wright also won one of the 300 fourth prizes, and her first prize-winning colour slide “Deepening Shadows” also won the colour slide section of the New Zealand division of the contest.
Mrs Wright’s first place in the Asahi-Pentax world photographic contest gains her prizes worth about £485. These include the latest Asahi-Pentax Spotmatic camera, not yet available in New Zealand, and accessories valued at about £350. These include a wide angle lens, 135 mm, 300 mm, and 500 mm telephoto lenses, a filter, a special viewfinder, a meter worth £4O, and other items. Her fourth prize gains her an award certificate and special plaque, and her first prize in the New Zealand division is a trip to Fiji. Mrs Wright has been actively engaged in photography for only seven years, and her enthusiasm is shared
by her husband, Mr P. C. Wright. The couple frequently make trips to the Central Otago area to take photographs there.
One of the contest’s 20 second prizes was won by a Christchurch professional photographer, Mr L. C. Park, with a monochrome print, “Small Nude.” His prize is worth £165. It includes a £l2O camera, a telephoto lens, and a close-up lens.
Mr Park also won the New Zealand monochrome prints division with “Scramble,” and the prize for this is a trip to Fiji.
