April 12 Britain's iron and steel board today announced ■ immediate rises in the maximum prices of steel averaging 12s 6d a ton—the first increases for more than three years. Increased costs of £21,500.000 a year since the last general price review in February, 1964. were blamed for the increase. The new prices represent an increase of just over 1 per cent on former levels and reflect only £llm of the board's cost increases, leaving the industry to absorb the balance. The board said reinforcing bars, "which are particularly vulnerable to cheap imports," would cost the same as before, while prices of tinplate and certain stainless steel sheets would drop.
