Coach Urges Four City Soccer League
(Sew Zealand Press Association > WELLINGTON, April 12. New Zealand’s new soccer coach. Mr L. Brocic, recommends the immediate formation of a national league involving Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
In a report tonight to the New Zealand Football Association executive, he said the only attractive competition soccer could offer was home-and-atvay league games.
Mr Brocic called for a meeting of representatives of the four centres and said the league must start this season. The league proposal was part of an 11-point plan which, he said, should be undertaken urgently to improve New Zealand soccer.
Mr Brocic said each of the four teams should have a sponsor and should organise financial support from the public.
His other recommendations included: Each association should have a head coach, either part-
time or full-time. The N.Z.F.A. should arrange coaching courses for the head coaches each year. Each association should establish a committee to run a training centre.
Inter-island matches should follow the league competition.
The four main centres should take all necessarymeasures to get permament soccer stadiums.
The N.Z.F.A. should offer live telecasts of its matches.
If New Zealand was strong enough, it could arrange three matches in Australia at the end of the season.
Mr Brocic said the best results of his coaching might only be achieved if he concentrated for the first two years on four main centres.
