Leaflet Raid On Indonesia
(N Z P A.• Reuter—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, April 12. Malaysian Air Force planes today dropped leaflets before dawn on Indonesian islands south of Malaysia used as forward attack bases by the Indonesian infiltrators.
A Malaysian Government spokesman said the aircraft met with light groundfire but all returned undamaged and without crew casualties. The planes showered Indonesian bases with leaflets carrying
messages from Indonesian prisoners in Malaysia on the occasion of the Moslem feast day of Hari Raya Haji. The leaflets contained greetings and photographs of the prisoners. A Malaysian Government spokesman told reporters that no information was available about air cover that might have been provided for the unarmed leaflet planes. This has opened speculation that British and possibly Australian fighter aircraft participated in the mission. The Malaysian Air Force possesses only trainer and transport planes and helicopters It has no fighters.
The only other Malaysian leaflet drop over Indonesian territory was last November 2. On that occasion Malaysian transports carrying out the raid were accompanied by British fighters.
The Government spokesman declined to give details of this morning’s drop. He would not reveal where the Malaysian planes were based or the exact area of their drop. Malaysian leaders have charged that islands off Sumatra and in the Rhio group, south of Singapore, are being used as forward bases for raids on Malaysian territory by Indonesian infiltrators. The spokesman said that no Indonesian aircraft were encountered during this morning’s raid. A number of British and Australian staff fly with the Malaysian Transport Command.
