FARMER’S THREAT
Minister's Answer f.N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) WORKINGTON (North-West England), April 12. Th e Agriculture Minister Mr Fred Peart, yesterday offered to have a quiet pint of beer with an anonymous farmer who threatened to shoot him. “Beer seems better than bullets as a means of settling this particular argument,” the minister said. Mr Peart said the man threatened in a letter to shoot him because of the government’s recent farm price review. which awarded farmers an extra Id a gallon price increase for milk instead of the 6d they asked. “It seems unfortunate that a person should be carried away to this extent.” Mr Peart said. "But no threat of violence will force me to change my mind.” Farmers annoyed about the government's policy have blocked roads with farm machinery, distributed live chickens to members of Parliament and threatened to let pigs loose in London’s congested Piccadilly Circus.
