NEW CHURCH CENTRE
Alteration Of Facade
Plans for the £31,000 centre at the Durham Street Methodist Church have been altered to meet criticism that the facade has too much glass. In a newsletter to his congregation the Rev. W. S. Dawson said that the ground floor would still be largely glass, but the upstairs floor would show an almost unbroken wall of rough-tex-tured stone aggregate. Other changes included the division of the youth floor by light movable partitions. A youth lounge, with a coffee bar, reading tables, stereogram, and a television set, was being planned. The floor would also provide group study rooms, open recreational space and a small chapel and prayer room. There was bound to be a delay of two or three months before innumerable details were decided, Mr Dawson said. After this, tenders would be called. Much would depend upon prices obtained, but it was hoped that the project would go ahead with all possible speed.
