Sergeant And Boy Of 10 (N Z Press Association) NAPIER. April 12. A 10-year-old boy and a police sergeant are critically ill in the Napier Hospital tonight after separate accidents at the same place on the main Napier-Hastings highway late this afternoon. Police have not released the names of the victims, who were struck by cars. Police said tonight they believed the boy was hit from behind while riding his bicycle along the highway about 6.20 p.m. The sergeant was investigating the accident when he was hit by another car.
The sergeant was critically injured.
The boy stopped breathing after the accident and was rushed to the Napier Hospital where he underwent an emergency operation.
Both the boy and the sergeant are suffering from head and other injuries.
