‘lesson on what he called an historic occasion. Roman Catholic, Anglican. Methodist and Presbyterian clergy conducted prayer. Accompaniments for hymns were provided by a Salvation Army band. Archdeacon L. O'S. Beere led the act of praise. A Catholic layman, Mr G. L. Lincoln. outlined the history of the new unity in Remuera churches to give expression to the ecumenical spirit of the times Mr J. Conolly. principal of the Anglican Dilworth School, asked: “Is this a turning point in our way of life? It could
be and ought to be.” Remuera churches had cooperated at first hesitantly, I then with enthusiasm. “We have shown the ' country that we have the desire and ability to work together.” Mr R. Garlick (Presby- . terian) said the isolation of ■ the respective churches was ended. In conducting a disi trict census of faith they had 1 learned to organise and work ■ together. There were no services in Remuera churches tonight and most congregations attended the service which preceded the Passion play.
