Hepatitis And Tuberculosis
Twenty-three cases of infective hepatitis were confirmed in the Christchurch health district last month. Nine of the sufferers were children.
Pulmonary tuberculosis was confirmed in 11 cases, and non-pulmonary forms of the disease in two cases. Three of those with pulmonary tuberculosis were men over 65. There were two cases of undulant fever, the source of which is untraced.
Two cases of puerperal fever occurred during the month, and there was one confirmed report of eclampsia, a toxaemia of pregnancy. Two baby boys had ophthalmia neonatorum, an eye disease of the new-born, and a baby giri had pemphigus neonatorum, a type of impetigo. One case of occupational dermatitis was confirmed during the month. There was a mild epidemic of measles, a non-notifiable disease.
