SHOOTING SEASON

Pegging Day April 11

Game-shooting licences will be available from today from most agents, the secretary of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society (Mr E. J. C. Hay) said yesterday. The season will start on May 1 at 6.30 a.m. The duckshooting season continues until June 7 and the season for Canada goose, black swan, and upland game until August 1. The licence fee is £1 10s. Pegging shooting claims starts at noon on April 11. Feeding on waters to be shot over is not permissible at any time, and ponds known to have feed in them will be closed to shooting, said Mr Hay. The season will be a closed one for pukeko, but Paradise duck may be taken to a bag limit of three.

Decoys will be allowable to a maximum of 10 during the duck-shooting season and 20 goose decoys during the part of the Canada goose season remaining after the duckshooting season.
