CHILDREN’S COURT
Two boys aged 14, one charged with theft and the other with theft and indecent assault, were committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare bv Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M., in the Children’s Court during February. Four boys and one girl, whose ages ranged from nine to 15, were committed to the care of the superintendent on charges that thev were not under proper control. Three boys, aged 10 to 14, charged with wilful damage, were placed under supervision. for one year. On theft charges two girls aged 14. were also placed under super vision for two years, as were, two 14-year-old boys. one charged with burglary and the other with receiving. Two boys aged 14 xere placed ‘ under supervision /or eighteen < months on theft charges On a complaint that they were not under proper control, five girte and two boys, all members of the same family, their ages ranging from six to 13. were placed under supervision for three years. A girl of 16. who appeared on a charge of theft, was placed under supervision until her seventeenth birthday. afters which probation for one year was ordered.
A boy of 16. on a charge of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, had his driver s licence cancelled for two years and was admonished and returned to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare.
On charges of damage and theft a boy aged 15 was admonished and discharged and ordered to pay restitution of £l. Also admonished and discharged were four 14-year-old boys appearing on charges of burglary, theft, wilful damage and unlawfully taking a powercycle. In the latter case restitution of £9 was ordered.
A fine of £lO was imposed on a 17-year-old boy charged with unlawfully taking a motor-car. He was also disqualified from driving for one year except in tht course of hi* employment.
Two boys aged 16, who drove in a dangerous manner, were fined £l5 and £5 respectively (licence cancelled for twelve months).
Charged with drinking liquor in a public place, a 16-year-old boy was fined £5, u-hile two boys of 15, who were in possession of liquor near dance halls, were fined £3 and £2 respectively. On seven charges of theft, a boy aged 16, was fined £3 on each charge. On three charges of theft a boy aged 15 was fined £4 on each charge, and a 14-year-old boy, on seven charges of theft, was fined £1 10s on each charge and ordered to pay restitution amounting to £4 2s 6d.
A 14-year-old boy, who set off fireworks in a public place, was fined £l. A 15-year-old boy was fined £5 on a charge of unlawfully taking, and was disqualified from driving for one year. On three charges of theft a boy aged 16 was fined £2 10s on each charge.
