CHANGE TO AIR N.Z.

Mr McAlpine’s View Although he felt that many domestic aviation interests resented the change in name from Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd., to Air New Zealand, it had to be realised that beyond the Dominion the name T.E.A.L. meant nothing, said the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr McAlpine) in Christchurch. Addressing a meeting of Christchurch aitport users, Mr McAlpine said that with its new name, which will come into effect today, Air New Zealand would really mean something in the Far East and in the United States. He said that he had been most reluctant to change the name of the Dominion’s overseas airline. “But I was convinced after discussions with airline operators throughout the world that we would have been very foolish not to have changed the name,” he said.
