Graziers in the drought areas, unable to feed their stock, are selling off thousands of sheep. Thousands more sheep face slow death by thirst or starvation as the last vestiges of feed disappear and water holes dwindle and disappear over the huge drought area, which stretches from northern Queensland over a thousand miles into New South Wales. The Government stock inspector at Texas, Queensland, Mr L. Butler, described the situation as “really desperate.
