SHEARING CONTEST
Russia To Be Asked (N.Z. Press Association) MASTERTON, March 29. The Golden Shears International Shearing Championship Society in Masterton, will invite shearers from the Soviet Union to take part in its championships from March 2 to March 5, 1966. The invitation will be delivered to the leader of the Soviet delegation at the E.C.A.F.E. conference, Mr I. A. Benediktov, for forwarding to the appropriate authority before his departure at the close of the conference.
Announcing this today, the president of the society, Mr R. E. Chamberlain said he had been encouraged by the statement from Mr Benediktov that an invitation from the society would be “favourably received.” The statement was made before Mr Benediktov suffered his mild stroke on Monday. Some days earlier Mr Benediktov had said he well remembered a visit to Russia from Mr W. G. Bowen, the Wool Board’s field director and his demonstrations of shearing at the economic achievements exhibition, in Moscow. Mr Chamberlain said invitations would also be given for Argentine and other shearers to compete in the Golden Shears.
