LONDON, March 29.
A headmistress of a school in Sheringham, Norfolk, has sought advice on how to stop an eight-year-old pupil from smoking 40 cigarettes a day. Miss Wilson, the head of a school for delinquent children, has appealed to the National Society of Non-Smokers for help. She wrote: “He is a nicotine addict, a chain-
smoker. I have tried giving him sweets but he just throws them at me.”
The society’s secretary, the Rev. Hubert Little, a Baptist minister, said today that he advised that all cigarettes should be taken away from the child.
“That is the only cure,” he said. “Apparently the only way he could get money to satisfy his craving was by stealing. I have never heard of such a shocking case.”
