LABOUR DEPT. POST Inspector To Be Superintendent
The new superintendent of the Department of Labour for the Christchurch district (Mr C. D. Macan) yesterday said he expected to take up his post on April 20. Mr Macan came to Christchurch yesterday from Wellington head office, on a brief familiarisation visit and to meet Christchurch business leaders.
He has spent 28 years with the department, beginning
; his career at the Wellington district office. Mr Macan replaces Mr C. P. Collins who will retire tomorrow. Since the Second World War, Mr Macan has served with the department at Napier; as senior clerk in Hastings; chief clerk in Hamilton; assistant district officer in Gisborne; for 10 years on the inspecting staff in the head office and for the last 18 months he has been assistant chief' inspector of factories at head office. Mr Macan served four years [ in the armed services. He was in the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in Italy. He was born in Dunedin, the son of an Otago journalist (Mr C. Macan). I As a departmental inspec-
tor, Mr Macan has been on office inspections from Whangarei to Invercargill, for the last 10 years. This has made him a frequent visitor to Christchurch, although his posting to Christchurch will be his first South Island appointment in 28 [years' service. Mr Macan was educated at the same primary school and [secondary school as his [ second-in-command in Christchurch (Mr A. B. Tuck). [ Both men were educated at [Musselburgh primary school [and Otago Boys’ High School, i }lr Macan is a keen bowler and is married with four children.
