TWO PILOTS GROUNDED
T.E.A.L Crash Sequel (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 29. T.E.A.L. has grounded the two pilots who were at the controls of the Electra Akaroa which crashed at Whenuapai on Saturday until the cause of the crash, which wrecked the £BOO,OOO aircraft is officially decided.
The pilots are Captain N. Clarke, a check captain, and Captain C. Le Couteur, captain in charge of emergency procedures.
T.E.A.L. is making inquiries in London and the United States on the availability of aircraft it could charter or buy to fill the gap caused by the loss of one of its three Electras until it begins operating DCB jets in late November.
The airline hopes to get another Electra, as any other type of aircraft would not fit readily into flight patterns and could mean having to get new crews.
The crashed Electra was insured for £BOO,OOO which is underwritten by a company in London. An official said today the pay-out would probably be in overseas exchange, which would help the airline to charter or buy a replacement aircraft.
