INAUGURAL FLIGHT
Qantas Plans
The Qantas Boeing, City of Newcastle, which will make the inaugural commercial flight across the Tasman, will land at Christchurch airport at 2.35 p.m. on April 10. The jet will be piloted by Captain R. F. Uren, chief pilot (line operations). On board will be the chairman of the company (Sir Hudson Fysh) and Lady Fysh, several Qantas executives, travel agents, and newspaper reporters.
The official party will be welcomed to Christchurch by the Mayor (Mr G. Manning). On Saturday afternoon the Boeing will make a courtesy flight over the South Island. From 8 a.m. until noon the next day it will be open for public inspection. At 1.30 p.m. on Sunday, the Boeing will leave on a courtesy flight over the North Island. It will land at 4 p.m. and take off for Sydney at 5.30 p.m. The Boeing will return to Christchurch at 4.50 p.m. on Monday, April 12, and two hours later it will leave for Sydney.
