Rio May Be Sold Today
The brilliant Hastings three-year-old, Rio, may he sold to Australia today.
The Melbourne trainer, B. Courtney, has an option on Rio and a decision will probably be made after he sees him gallop at Hastings today. Courtney was at Awapuni on Saturday with one of his Australian owners. He came to New Zealand to see Rio run in the Awapuni Gold Cup, but the My Pal gelding was taken out of the field because of the heavy track. Rio has won seven of his 10 starts this season, and won five times in eight starts at two years. Rio has been entered for races at the Australian Jockey Club’s Sydney Cup carnival at Easter.
