FINN CUP YACHTING
Pacific Title To Everett (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 28. N. R. Everett, a 28-year-old Aucklander, today won the Pacific Finn Cup yachting championship which ended at Takapu.na. His placings in the seven-race series were 44, 10, 1,2, 4,3, 13. The runner-up was P. W. Letcher (Auckland), who finished with a late burst and had placings of 43, 43, 6,2, 3, 4, 1. The next in line, with placings of 14. 32, 1,7, 6,2, 18, was R. H. Roberts (Auckland), who has sailed Finns twice in the world championships and once (for sixth place) in the Olympic Games.
The top 11 were: Everett. 8067, 1; Letcher, 7733, 2: R. H. Roberts. 7502, 3: R. J. Wilkinson (Northland), 7163, 4; C. Ryrie (Australia), 6447, 5: T. J. Speed (Auckland), 6362, 6; B. G. de Thier (Canterbury), 6131, 7; D. Schmidt (Auckland), 6089, 8: D. Newell (Auckland). 5702 , 9; M. T. Mitchell (Auckland). 5584, 10: R. J. Watson (Auckland), 5452, 11.
The New Zealand championship and world championship selection trials were decided on a separate points calculation which took no consideration of the overseas yachtsmen.
The only alteration to the order of New -Zealand contestants, however, was that de Thier and -Schmidt changed places. Results of heats:
