COLLISION WITH TRAIN
Car Did Not Stop
A light green car struck the overnight express goods train from Christchurch to Blenheim on the Main North road crossing just north of Omihi about 10.30 p.m. on Friday. The train stopped but the car drove on. The vehicle struck the train near the guard’s van. When the train was crossing the road the guard felt a bump near the guard’s van and shortly afterwards a passenger told him that she had seen a car run into the side of the van. The train was stopped and it was found that the van was scored with a line of light green paint. The Amberley constable found a chrome strip lying on the ground.
