STRASBOURG, March 28.
Agreements reached by the Common Market in the last year had paved the way for further progress on European unity, the French Foreign Minister, Mr Couve de Murville says.
Mr de Murville, president of the Common Market’s Council of Ministers, was reporting to the E.E.C. European Parliament.
He particularly emphasised the importance of agreements in the field of agriculture. The agreement on common grain prices and connected problems in December, 1964. had been reached “thanks to the spirit of co-operation.” As a result, from July 1,
1967, the community would form a vast free market for grain, eggs, poultry and pork. Referring to the Kennedy Round on tariff cutting negotiations, Mr Couve de Murville said he hoped they would lead to an expansion of world trade. But this meant the same effort on the part of other countries not only in applying tariff cuts but also in solving the problem of tariff disparities.
