House Prices In Nelson
Sir, —There is soon to be an influx of Christchurch people into Nelson to work in the assembly plant of a motor firm. In consequence, the prices of houses in Nelson have reached very unrealistic heights. Persons contemplating a move north should know the situation. I, unfortunately, have moved south to Nelson, unavoidably, and find that house prices are even higher than they were in the North Island. A few examples:—l. Two-bedroom, sun lounge, small lounge, small kitchen, workshop and garage, £5OOO. 2. One-bed-room, one small lounge, no bathroom (only a shower), small dining-room, £3900. 3. Three-bedroom, lounge, kitchen, very old house needing repiling and redecorating with possibly a new roof, £3OOO. By and large they are generally asking £lOOO too much. Christchurch people should be wary. —Yours, etc., NORTH ISLANDER. March 17, 1965.
